11 June, We spent today looking around Kununurra.
At the markets I saw a future film star (left) and thought she would give Angelina Jolie a run for her money.
Her mum was also there (right). As they were leaving, mum called out .. "c'mon Billy, we're going"!!! I was blown away - "she" was a boy called Billy.
(not completely true, this may not have been mum, but it makes a story)
Now THAT (left) is a boab tree!
.. .. and somebody left the tap running at the Kununurra Diversion dam. It feeds water out to the immense areas of farms and market gardens that have been made possible by the damming of the Ord River.
Odometer when leaving Katherine was 5074 klms
12th June, We had a short run today from Kununurra to Turkey Creek. On this short leg I saw a very clever bird hovering over a scrub fire, he was waiting for goannas to come running out from the fire. That's a bit like the throwing dynamite into a lake and scooping up the stunned fish.
Something that seriously worried me was the size of the bloody termites who lived in this termite mound!
Some of the Boulders that roll down the side of the mountains are in the vicinity of 400 to 600 tonnes (I did some arithmetic on this using "ohms law").
I wondered who would move them off the road if they didn't stop in time?
And HERE is the town of Turkey Creek (left). Yup ! that's it. No Woolies, No Coles, No IGA ... nothing!
Well actually, there is a barbeque in the paddock where we stopped.
Fortunately we will be away for a whole day on a tour of the Bungle Bungles (those weird mountains that look like great big bee hives). The only other reason you might stop in Turkey Creek is for a pee.
We will be here for two nights and expect to be visited by ... er? ... nobody at all.
All the local community (aboriginals) were evacuated a month or so ago when the area was flooded. They left their poor hungry looking dogs behind though.

13th June, Our trip from Turkey Creek into the Purnululu National Park was a horror.
It included 90 klms of four wheel driving through creeks (left) and over some very rough dirt road.
In an attempt to smooth some of the corrugations our tour bus dragged a dirty great big tyre along behind it (right).
During this 4 hour horror trip I cured my passion for four wheel driving. We also discovered that there is an airstrip (left) - we could have flown in. It's not a real flash airport, but the planes are not too bad. In fact, compared to our "tour truck" they would have been five star.
If we had flown in, I would not have had to argue with this huge beast (above right) in the middle of the road.
This wagon (left) must give you some idea of what we went through.
Here's a "beleive it or not"
- there really are black dingoes !!! (right)
We finally reached the most spectacular, awesome piece of Australia that I have seen - the Bungle Bungles. Much better than Ayers Rock. Better than Wave Rock, Better than the Ocean Road .. etc .. put this into your list of things to do before you die.
