Whether you have been here before or not.. WELCOME! I'm not much of a photographer but I enjoy taking photos that [to me] seem unusual or interesting. Sometimes I think they are funny, sometimes strange and sometimes R rated. In any case you are encouraged to put comments in the visitors book. I hope I can make you smile or even giggle a bit.

A showground

The Blackwater Showgrounds seemed to be a much better option than the local caravan park where they wanted $50 per night for an unpowered site (business must be brisk!?). However, when we found the showground it was desolate and deserted. Maybe we arrived too early and simply beat the crowds. Anyway, we packed up and turned around. We went back a few kilometers to the town of Bluff where the inn keeper invites caravanners for free.

An office

Before we left Blackwater Showground I decided to leave a note at their office to say we wouldn't be staying after all. The office was rather poorly furnished and didn't even have a computer or coffee machine (see the pic).

A small pub

When they have events at the showground the pub opens for business. Small ain't it.

The Half Way House

And finally, after 70 odd years, I've found "The Half Way House".

stop gambling

Seems odd somehow? If you have come into the pub to play the pokies, it is hard to imagine this working. "Please Mr Publican, would you mind banning me before I put some money into your poker machine". A politician was obviously involved.

Lots of coal

I cannot imagine the value of the coal that passes through the town of Bluff on it's way to [wherever]. The trucks carry close to 100 tons of coal and this train only had 90 trucks. The coal trains seem to go through here every couple of hours.

The Bluff Pub

Thats the pub at Bluff. Meals, free camping, cold beer, great place. The only other businesses in town are the hairdresser and a FULL body massage shop (didn't try it). We also found an abandoned Motel with a caretaker. I really don't think he was a squatter!

Inside the pub

This is the Bluff Hotel where we had a couple of meals and shared a few stories with Graham [Graeme ?] the publican. Don't go past this pub without stopping for a visit.

Looks ok

Everybody around town recommended a visit to the Tablelands so we headed that way (left the caravan at Bluff luckily).

The Tablelands

Yup! that's where we're going - right up the top of the distant range of mountains. Should be great.

Dried up river beds

It wasn't all plain sailing. We had to cross some river beds etc..

On top of the world

The "Horseshoe Lookout" was breathtaking, loved it. Just as well because it all went pear shaped from here on. See part five in a few days.
