Whether you have been here before or not.. WELCOME! I'm
not much of a photographer but I enjoy taking photos that [to me] seem unusual or interesting. Sometimes I think they are funny, sometimes strange and sometimes R rated. In any case you are encouraged to put comments in the visitors book. I hope I can make you smile or even giggle a bit.
After the Horseshoe Lookout the road into the Blackdown Tablelands National Park became mostly gravel with occasional sealed patches. This short stretch was sealed because it was a hairpin bend, which dropped down into a gulley and crossed a dried up river bed. It was one of the nice easy patches of road which was supposed to be taking us to a camping area, so it was claimed!
The dirt road deteriorated more & more every kilometer from here on. This was the best there was.
The road gradually disappeared. I usually enjoy four wheel driving in the bush - but this was slowing me down too much so I turned around. Even turning around was a struggle. The people who go to the camping area at the end of this road are definitely obsessed with camping.

Back in the town of Bluff, I decided to check out the "not so obvious" parts of the town that Frank could see on a map! "Quite a small town" he said (maybe not the exact words but close enough). This picture is a bit of an exageration Frank, but it gives you an idea what the back streets of the town look like. The Aurizon company (coal mining? railway?) has moved out of Bluff and the place is struggling.
When we say that we stayed "at the back of the pub" - this is what we mean. The pub is the building you can see just past the front of the Cruiser. The Licensee just asks that caravanners buy a beer or two, a meal or two, and put a donation in the donation box.
Mysterious, yes, but the residents of the tiny community of Bluff know something that we don't. I was told that the town would have to be burnt to the ground before the Thai Massage would be allowed to close up shop. As we walked past the shop, the owner did a quick sales pitch to us .. .. .. what happened next? Find out in Part 6

These two little fellows were displayed at the Emerald Show last week - but were falsely claimed to be baby albino possums. When their true identity was uncovered they tried to fly home, but I caught one as he flew over my caravan and the other one came back because he said he wasn't even sure where they lived.
This ugly critter is not so real. If you can guess what he is supposed to be, put your guess in the visitors book (top of page).
So my claim about where cotton came from must have been B.S. Here it is just outside Emerald. It stretches as far as the eye can see. There's more than a few cotton sheets in this paddock.

The welcome to Emerald follows the style used by a whole string of outback towns. These steel plates simply rust to give them the "rusty" look. There looks like a huge amount of work involved in each of them eh!
Not so long ago I commented on some Queensland style of advertising that might have needed some work. Butt this probably gets the message across.
