Whether you have been here before or not.. WELCOME! I'm not much of a photographer but I enjoy taking photos that [to me] seem unusual or interesting. Sometimes I think they are funny, sometimes strange and sometimes R rated. In any case you are encouraged to put comments in the visitors book. I hope I can make you smile or even giggle a bit.
The Burdekin is one of the last places where farmers burn the sugar cane before it is harvested. You'll need to go to Mackay in Qld soon if you want to see it because they won't be doing it for much longer. The black ash and soot that falls from the sky afterwards is called the "Burdekin Snow" or "Black Snow". Take ear muffs and sunglasses!
I asked three local aboriginal people to tell me what these two statues were about. When all three of them finished explaining (all at the same time), my head was spinning. I picked up bits and pieces relating to:
a) Turtles from somewhere up the top of Qld.
b) Cane fields getting very small.
c) Men playing "hide & Seek" in the cane fields.
d) Sugar Cane Beetles were never a problem, the toads weren't needed.
Connie entered a competition to build an igloo out of mud. The mayor of Mackay was impressed - but disqualified Connie for copying World War II bunkers.

Groper Creek.. look very closely. See the telegraph pole.. see the meter box half way up.. see the ladder leading up to it.. That makes it easier to connect up the power to your caravan during floods of more than three meters
(and/or less than three meters) ?!
I thought I had caught a fire bug in the act.
The entire harbour is enclosed in a wall made from millions of large rocks. Stop looking at the good looking couple in front and take note of the millions of tons of rocks in the background.

Who would have imagined that a sleepy little coastal town like Mackay would have a harbour with so many submarines. The boats are camouflage to confuse any invasion.
Now THAT'S a vibe.
I wanna take it home.

We were walking in the dark late at night (don't ask) when a strange noise stopped us in our tracks. I used the flash on my camera to see what was ahead.
Huh? How do I know what's going on?
Somebody has to be in charge of the sugar mill during lunch break.
A one night stop over at St Lawrence was frighteningly quiet all night.
This place was once packed with caravans every night during the "winter" and the visitors helped to keep the tiny town alive. Then the council asked for $10 per night (no water or power) and the place is now deserted. The town of St Lawrence is now close to a ghost town (without ghosts). Well done councillors!
