Whether you have been here before or not.. WELCOME! I enjoy taking photos that [to me] seem unusual or interesting. Sometimes I think they are funny, sometimes strange and sometimes R rated. In any case you are encouraged to put comments in the visitors book. I hope I can make you smile or even giggle a bit.

Driving south from Broome, we passed through some densely populated suburbs like this one. The amazing discovery was that NOT ONE of the residents owned a car!
Eighty Mile Beach is still the same as it was on our last visit ten years ago. The caravan park has been improved dramatically with bigger sites and new amenities. Strangely, the owners (staff?) appear to be quite depressed. Amongst the banned activities are "on-board washing" machines and "drones" - ??? True!
And looking North along the beach it appears to be endless.
It could almost be eighty miles of beach!

Looks like an oasis eh!
In fact it's close to 40 degrees.
Joggers in Sydney run along the road and often on the wrong side (i.e. with their back to the approaching traffic).
Obviously this beast has more sense than many of the joggers around Sydney.
He was on his way to the "Iron Clad Hotel" at Marble Bar. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the pub was closed for renovations.

And this is not BULL.
Way back in the early nineteen hundreds Marble Bar remained above 100 degrees farenheit for over 100 days !
Maybe you should check that, I think it's right, it's in the Guiness Book of Records.
This is the most impressive building in Marble Bar. It was also the busiest.
Even the "Iron Clad Hotel" was closed for renovations (which commenced eighteen years ago).
You are supposed to read this.
I asked some locals where it was and they said "never heard of it" !
I think it may have been the "World" part that confused them.

According
to legend, Marble Bar was named by a fighter pilot who was shot down during
World War II. Lost, and wandering in the desert, he came across what he thought
was a massive hill made of pure marble. He died in the desert before he could
pass the name onto white people. When morse code became available .... .... ....
anyway it turned out to be jasper, not marble.
We were given directions to the actual spot where the discovery was made and this is what we found. A large smelly pool of mud where the cattle apparently drank - and relieved themselves.
The next day we went to the post office and the young lady there became quite excited about the towns pride and joy. She gave us some new directions, and this is what we found...
When you first see it, the rock is quite drap and dull.
When you throw some water on it - the change is dramatic. A bit like throwing a cup of water at your girlfriend!
